N.B. Medici Chapels: Open only in the morning in Winter. Closed on 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month. Santa Croce: Closed on Sunday morning and other religious holidays.
Description:
We will visit the Galleria dell’Accademia, which houses the largest number of sculptures by Michelangelo, including the world famous “David” and “I Prigioni” or “Slaves” his beautiful unfinished sculptures made for Julius II tomb in Rome.
From there, we go on to the Medici Chapels, part of the San Lorenzo church complex which houses the crypt, the mausoleum of the Medici grand-dukes, the Cappella dei Principi and the awe-inspiring New Sacristy where Michelangelo executed two of the most famous Medici tombs.
We will end in Santa Croce “Pantheon of Italian Glories”, where Michelangelo Buonarroti, Galileo Galilei and Machiavelli are buried. One of Brunelleschi’s most perfect architectural creations, the Pazzi Chapel, is located in a lovely cloister here.
