Description:
We will start our tour with a delicious coffee and pastry in a local historic bar. Continuing through the medieval and less crowded section of the city, we reach Piazza della Signoria which is dominated by the imposing Palazzo della Signoria, and here we find some of Italy’s finest Renaissance sculptures…. The Perseus , the Rape of the Sabine, the Neptune fountain, the equestrian statue of Cosimo I Medici. We can proudly call this square an outstanding open air museum.
A short walk away is the Ponte Vecchio, with its quaint jewelry shops and breathtaking views followed by a delicious ice cream.
From there, we go on to Piazza della Repubblica and the Religious center the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, also known as the Duomo, to see its crowning glory Brunelleschi’s dome, Giotto’s bell tower and the Baptistery of San Giovanni all from the outside.
We will visit the Galleria dell’Accademia, which houses the largest number of sculptures by Michelangelo, including the world famous “David” and “I Prigioni” or “Slaves” his beautiful unfinished sculptures made for Julius II tomb in Rome.
We will end our morning at the Mercato Centrale, our historic food market built in 1874, where we will taste local products such as cured meats, cheeses, balsamic vinegars, truffle products and cantuccini (biscotti) and sweet wine.
