Description:
Starting from the central Piazza della Repubblica, we will cross the Ponte Vecchio and enter the Oltrarno area (the other side of the Arno river). Walking along the Arno river we will reach Piazza Poggi with the beautiful medieval tower of San Niccolò and the Piazzale Michelangelo located on top of the hill overlooking the city. The views are spectacular so the “hike” up the hill is worth every step of the way!
A short walk and we will arrive at the beautiful church of San Miniato, dating back to XI century it is one of Italy’s most beautiful examples of the Romanesque style and definitely worth a visit. The views from the front of the church are unique.
Along our downhill walk we will enter the Rose Garden which houses a wonderful collection of roses and numerous sculptures by Jean-Michel Folon.
Finally we reach the area of San Niccolò, vibrant with cafes, artisan workshops and little restaurants. We will end with a delicious ice cream
